We provide an affordable and professional counselling service to all communities and individuals in Portsmouth and surrounding areas, especially to those people suffering poverty and exclusion and whose lives are marginalised and outside mainstream.
Please contact us if you would like to receive counselling, and you will be offered an initial assessment session. This is not a free service, but fees payable are related to your financial situation.
Portsmouth Counselling Service has specialised teams of counsellors working with addiction, domestic violence and older people issues.
We are seeking qualified volunteer Counsellors who are able to see clients between 5pm and 8pm - Monday to Friday. Applicants should be qualified to a minimum of diploma level. Supervision is provided fortnightly and is free of charge. We will provide financial assistance for counsellors wishing to obtain accreditation.

Counselling can help you deal with a range if issues - like stress, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, loss, abuse, bereavement, addiction. Counselling is about supporting you in making sense of your thoughts and feelings. You can then make choices about what to do to bring about changes in your life.
The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is fundamentally important for a successful counselling process, and counsellors are trained to build this relationship based on core conditions and professional boundaries. Our counsellors work from various theoretical models to meet clients’ needs best. The counselling team is supported by an external clinical consultant and 4 highly qualified clinical supervisors who oversee our work. All counsellors are trained or in training and work on a part time basis. We are able to offer short or long term counselling. An initial Clinical Assessment is undertaken to assess clients’ needs.

PCS endeavours to provide an affordable and professional counselling service for Portsmouth residents. We are able to offer subsidised counselling for general issues and clients are asked to make a donation to their counselling calculated on the household income.
Free of charge counselling (Assessment and 12 sessions) is available for clients with drug or alcohol concerns.
