Adoption and Birth Parent Counselling

Adoption and Birth Parent Counselling

Free of charge counselling available

Portsmouth Adoption Agency have contracted Portsmouth Counselling Service to provide 12 free confidential counselling sessions to birth parents at any point from when adoption is identified as the plan for their child. Counselling may also be available for other birth family members affected by a plan for adoption.

Counselling gives you a confidential and safe place to talk about your problems and express your feelings with a trained professional counsellor. Counselling takes place with just you and your counsellor on a weekly basis at a set time and date.

Access to Birth Parent Counselling at PCS

Access to Birth Parent Counselling is available through Portsmouth Adoption Agency. They will write to you as part of the adoption process to offer 12 sessions of free counselling before your child’s plan for adoption is considered by the Portsmouth Adoption Panel. You will be requested to contact Portsmouth Counselling Service directly to make an appointment. If you do not feel able to take up this service at this point, you will be contacted again when your child is placed for adoption.

This service is independent and confidential and, within the normal boundaries of child protection, what is discussed between you and your counsellor is private.
